From September 8 to 13, 2024, Astana proudly hosted the 5th World Nomad Games, an international event showcasing ethnic sports. The editorial team at «Kursiv» prepared a guide to what unfolded during these global competitions.

History of the Games

The World Nomad Games were first held in Kyrgyzstan in 2014, with subsequent events taking place in the city of Cholpon-Ata. In 2022, the games were hosted by Iznik, Turkey, gathering over 3,000 athletes from 82 countries. This year’s games brought together more than 2,500 participants from 89 countries, competing for 97 sets of medals. The 5th World Nomad Games in Astana featured 21 ethnic sports, including: horse racing, national wrestling styles, martial arts, traditional archery, falconry, intellectual folk games, and more. The event attracted teams from countries with nomadic heritage and others from around the world. In addition to the sports, cultural and scientific events, such as the «Nomads’ Universe» ethno-village, revealed nomadic traditions.

Our team of translators participated to ensure clear communication and smooth interactions, contributing to the overall success of the games.
